taylor swift stayed quiet throughout election season in fear it would cost her album sales in middle america she doesn’t get to talk about how great it is to be a woman when she could have reached out to her base, young white women in rural america who’ve loved her since she made faux country music, not that people would automatically vote the other way bc taylor said they should but even a retweet of a fucking fact check on the trump campaign could have maybe helped.

i do agree she shouldve said something but i dont think it wouldve done anything. she probably didnt speak up bc she didnt want to be dragged like she usually is for everything. but thats no excuse to her being complicit in silence. i dont see is why she cant voice her support for the women’s march tho (even if it is delayed). there are bunch of ppl out there who are actually fucking evil and support trump n i feel like we should direct our energy toward them. but feel free to disagree or whatever

nobody claimed it would have changed the outcome the point of the post is she had a chance to get more people involved, white people in towns who only know other white people, who only see other white people on the nightly news, who don’t follow popular culture the way people on the coasts of america do unless the name taylor swift is involved or it’s top 40 pop music on the one non-country music channel in their small town. 

she doesn’t get to stay quiet throughout the whole day, the whole election cycle not retweet a single thing about the protests taking place literally all over the world not speak out about sexual assault the president literally bragged about committing until she can insert herself into it about how she’s like totally happy to be a woman 

she could have made her fans feel comforted throughout this process and im not talking about her base im talking about her muslim fans, her jewish fans, her black, native, asian, and latinx fans, her lgbtq fans, her disabled fans, she could have spoke up, we do this weird thing where we make famous women be role models when that’s not something they signed up for but she fucking signed up for it the minute she decided to capitalize on feminism and take money from the people she went mute on while they were being attacked by a man who now is the most powerful person on the planet
